Spotlight on: Southgate

The home of Hael Farm Cottage, Southgate is a wonderful place for a walking, golfing or family holiday, with plenty of variety in terms of activities, and offers a very private, cosy setting to return to each evening.

Sunset at Three Cliffs Bay

Situated between Pennard Golf Course and the cliffs of the Gower coast, the village is home to a large National Trust Car Park providing access to some of Gower’s most iconic beaches including Three Cliffs Bay, Pobbles Bay and Pwlldu, and a short stroll across the Golf Course will lead you to Pennard Castle, an ancient ruin that once formed a major command post in Gower, with an interesting history that you can learn more about here.

The View from nearby Pennard Golf Course

Pennard Golf Club has one of the best views in the world, and also has a great club house serving food and drink which many of our guests have enjoyed.

Pennard Castle

The village is also home to a coffee shop, a bistro and a post office/convenience store, all staffed by very friendly locals. There’s also a fabulous local pub, The Southgate, which serves local beer, home made food and offers a warm welcome.

The entrance to Hael Farm Cottage

Hael Farm Cottage has it’s own long, winding private drive, where, at the end, you will drive through a gate to reach a pretty open courtyard and our own duck pond.

It’s perfectly possible to spend your entire holiday in and around Southgate, but the beauty of being here is that the rest of the Gower coast is within easy reach, Oxwich is 10 minutes away, Mumbles is just 15 minutes away and you are only 25 minutes drive from Rhossili. The Gower Heritage Centre and beautiful woodlands at Parc Le Breos are also just 10 minutes drive.
